Theory Study Preparing For The Theory And Hazard Perception Test We strongly recommend that you prepare thoroughly for both parts of the test. Although it is not necessary to have any experience of driving before you take your test, in practice, some experience of real road and traffic situations will help you to understand the theory and hazard perception element of learning to drive - plus your instructor will be an invaluable source of help and advice. However, you will also need to do some preparation work by yourself. Preparing for the Theory Test There are numerous training aids on the market to help you study for the multiple choice element of your theory test ranging from books, CD ROMs and interactive DVDs to online software. Essential study materials include; The Highway Code. Essential reading for all road users, from pedestrians to lorry drivers and from horse riders to motorcyclists. Many of the rules in the code are legal requirements and failure to adhere to the rules could result in prosecution You can buy a copy of this very cheaply or an online version of the Highway code is available here. Know Your Traffic Signs. Many of the questions in the Theory Test relate to the various road signs found on British roads and this book illustrates and explains the vast majority of traffic signs that the road user is likely to encounter.   The Official DSA Theory Test for Car Drivers and The Highway Code. This is the official book which includes all of the car theory test questions and explains the answers. It is written by the Driving Standards Agency, the people who set the tests.
