What Is An Intensive Course?

Intensive courses, crash courses & fast pass courses

Intensive courses, Semi-Intensive Courses, Crash Courses, Fast Pass Courses...all of these mean basically the same thing - a course of driving lessons that get you to Practical Test standard relatively quickly.

Intensive learning to drive courses are ONLY appropriate for people who:

If all of the above apply to you, there are still some more things you need to consider before embarking on an intensive course. For more information, please read the rest of this page.

These courses are NOT suitable for those who:

In these cases, you would be better considering spreading your lessons out over a longer period. Please see our Driving Lessons page for details.

Important information

Intensive Courses in Spalding, Bourne, The Deepings, Holbeach and the surrounding areas of South Lincolnshire

Intensive courses need forward-planning as there are waiting times for both the theory and practical driving tests. In addition, courses need to be booked to fit in with the availability of our instructors. Instructors have committments to existing customers and, whilst accommodating two to four lessons a week is often possible, much more than this would need to be scheduled well in advance.

PLEASE NOTE: It is not possible for us (or for any driving school) to supply a pre-determined driving test appointment for a learner driver. The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) only allow driving tests to be booked by, or on behalf of, individual learner drivers using their driving licence number, date of birth and theory test pass details. Driving instructors are not allowed to reserve test bookings and to allocate these to learner drivers on demand.

You do not need to have passed the Theory Test before you start having driving lessons, but you will need to do so before you can book a Practical Test date.

Waiting times for test appointments vary across the country and throughout the year with peak demand being in the Summer months.

It should be noted that our courses are SEMI-INTENSIVE i.e. driving lessons will be spread out over a period of mutually convenient days or weeks in the run-up to your driving test.

How long is an intensive course?

The length of an intensive course varies from individual to individual and depends on several factors including:

The DVSA have stated:

On average, people who pass their driving test have had 47 hours of driving lessons with a driving instructor and 20 hours of private practice.

In reality, everyone is different and learns at their own pace. The above information should only be used as a guide. Some people will need longer and some people need less.

Prior to starting an intensive course, you will need to have an assessment lesson with a driving instructor so that we can see what your current standard of driving is and then give an estimate of how many hours of tuition you are likely to need to get to test standard. The instructor can then tailor an individual course for you, to suit your needs, availability and timescale.

What Is The Cost Of An Intensive Course?

Intensive course prices

The total cost of an intensive course depends on how many hours it takes an individual to achieve the standard of driving required for the Practical Driving Test.

As a guideline, our Pre-Paid Course Prices are as follows:

Item 5 Hour
Pre-Paid Course
10 Hour
Pre-Paid Course
20 Hour
Pre-Paid Course
(£29 per hour)
(£28 per hour)
(£27 per hour)

If any further tuition is required in addition to the hours purchased. you have the option of purchasing another block of lessons or paying for additional lessons at the pay-as-you-go hourly rate as shown on our prices page.

Payment for the entire course is required on or before the first lesson in the course.

Being Realistic

Do you offer 'pass in a week' or 'guaranteed pass' courses?

We do not offer "Guaranteed Pass" or "Pass Your Test In 1 or 2 Weeks" courses, neither do we offer courses with a pre-set number of hours and a test at the end.

The first two are sales-gimmicks - we don't go in for sales-gimmicks nor do we make unrealistic, empty promises! There's no such thing as a "Guaranteed Pass" - if there was, no-one would ever fail their driving test! Pass In A Week courses are unrealistic and completely unsuitable for beginners or those with a limited amount of previous driving experience. There is a vast amount of information to take in and driving is a skill that is best acquired through consolidation and practice. Rushing and looking for a quick fix rarely works and certainly will not result in you being a safe and confident driver.

As mentioned above, driving schools cannot give you a test date or help you get a test cancellation. There is no "cancellation list", nor does any driving instructor have any influence over the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency waiting times for tests. You will have to pass your theory test before you can book a practical test and you may well have to wait for a number of weeks between the two depending on demand at the test centres. THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS!

We DON'T offer "one-size-fits-all" courses with a set number of hours because everyone is an individual and has different needs when it comes to learning to drive!

Selling customers 60 hours of lessons when they may only need 30 hours isn't the way we do things, nor do we agree with letting someone waste their time and money by taking their driving test after a set number of hours if they're not at the required standard.

Our semi-intensive courses are designed for INDIVIDUALS - we tailor a course for the needs of each person to fit in with the way they learn best, their availability for lessons and their timescale.
